Service: Architecture
Size: 452 Beds
The existing building consisted of three blocks of 8-storey student accommodation located around a central courtyard. This major project by Self Architects was split into two distinct phases. Phase 1 involved the refurbishment of the existing cluster 386 bedrooms to form 33 new studios from existing cluster flats and redundant staff rooms.
Phase 2 was a new build wing that provides an additional 33 studio rooms. A new common room was created in redundant storage space to provide additional amenity areas. The external façade of the building was re-clad using new powder coated aluminium cladding panels.
Maximising Existing Student Accommodation
Tyne Student Living joins several Self student housing projects, which demonstrate our stills in maximising an existing student block, by reconfiguring the accommodation to generate more beds, as well as extending the buildings to add additional accommodation. The accommodations design is substantially upgraded through the design of our interior designers, to create fresh and vibrant spaces.
