Endo at the Rotunda wins GQ’s Best UK Restaurant
13th April 2023
Endo at the Rotunda has won Best Restaurant at the 2023 GQ Food and Drink Awards. The renowned Japanese restaurant, which opened in 2019, was the first permanent restaurant for Endo Kazutoshi, one of the top Sushi chefs in the world. It sits on the 8th floor of the Rotunda, the old BBC Television Centre in White City, offering guests wonderful views of the capital.
Monaghans played a major role in the delivery of the restaurant, providing project and cost management services, leading the client in establishing the full professional and contractor team, and managing and leading the BREEAM process.
The restaurant was delivered on time and on budget, despite the challenging location and design issues. As well as having a small goods lift as the only access to the site, Rotunda is a mixed residential and office building, a typical Japanese location for a restaurant, so there were numerous landlord services running through the 125m² site to accommodate. The restaurant counter, made out of traditional Japanese Hinoki wood, had to be sourced and delivered from Japan and then craned up to the 8th floor.
The GQ award adds to the list of accolades, with it listed in the World’s Top 50 Best Restaurants, The Good Food Guide, as well as having a Michelin Star, which it received within the first year of opening. Monaghans have since gone on to work with the chef on several of his other projects in the UK.
