The Monaghans project management team were proud to see the opening of Victoria Gate in Leeds today having successfully delivered the flagship John Lewis department store that will serve as the anchor tenant for the £165 million development.
With 250,000 ft² of retail space over five trading floors, John Lewis Leeds is very much a flagship full line department store, offering customers the very best of everything they need under one roof and was described by Head of Branch, James Prince, as: “our most service and experiential led shop to date as we continue to offer more for customers that can't be replicated online”. The store includes services such as Kuoni Personal Travel Experts, Home Design, Nursery Advice, Personal Stylists, Gift Lists, and the new &Beauty concept offering more than 120 treatments from massages to manicures.
These services are of course in addition to the extensive range of top fashion, home, beauty and technology brands synonymous with John Lewis. And, after a hard days shopping, customers can also take a moment to relax at the Benugo Café or enjoy the views from the iconic Place to Eat restaurant on the top floor. Externally John Lewis’ first store in Leeds has a striking three dimensional façade that complements the city’s architectural history whilst providing a contemporary new landmark that bookends the Victoria Gate development and serves as a major entrance to the heart of Leeds retail.
John Lewis Leeds is linked to Victoria Quarter by the new Victoria Gate Arcade, an elegantly designed two street arcade, drawing on the architecture of Victoria Quarter and the surrounding buildings whilst providing a vibrant new addition; the ornamental roof and feature lighting is a particular highlight. The overall Victoria Gate development will accommodate around 450,000 ft² of retail and leisure space and in combination with Victoria Quarter will become part of the new 575,000 ft² Victoria Leeds shopping district which looks set to become a major hub for premium shopping and dining in the North of the UK.
Monaghans also recently delivered John Lewis’ first ever branch in Essex as John Lewis Chelmsford, part of the £150m Bond Street development, opened its doors to customers on 29th September. The small full-line department store comprises 90,000 ft² of selling space over three floors, bringing together some of the best that John Lewis has to offer. Features include a new Café:Bar concept from Benugo allowing customers to enjoy a glass of prosecco straight from a tap or Benugo's signature coffee whilst they shop and a significant 7,900 ft² beauty hall with 14 premium beauty counters from brands such as M.A.C, Charlotte Tilbury and Nars.
